I am a relative newcomer to Key Biscayne having recently bought an apartment at Casa del Mar and only spending winters here.

We keep getting emails from Tony Camejo and a president's council. At first, it seemed interesting. But once I looked at the information they were providing, I was confused. They state that the condos pay 52% of Village wide taxes, certainly a small majority.

What is confusing though, is that there are over 5,000 condos and only 1,100 single family homes. You would assume that the ratio would be 5:1, not barely 1:1.

In other words, it seems that each family in a single family home is paying 4x more for every Village service than families in condos, for the same service. Each family is protected the same by our police, and fire departments. Every family benefits equally from each Village service. Each family's contribution should be equal, not based on property value.

Strange to look at it that way, isn't it?

Numbers don't lie, but they can be used to defend flawed arguments as this president's council is doing.
