AP, Official Mobile App and Analytics Provider of the 2014 Sony Open, continues to enhance the tennis experience through innovative solutions with the 2014 Official Sony Open Tournament app.
The enhanced 2014 app will provide fans, on site and at home, the opportunity to get closer to the tennis action than ever before. New app features include optimized content for smartphone and tablet devices, dual language content (English and Spanish), an improved virtual replay feature and exclusive tournament videos.
The Sony Open, a Premier Mandatory event on the WTA calendar and an ATP Masters 1000 Series event, attracts the best male and female players in the world. The 2014 tournament will be played from March 17 to 30, at Crandon Park, Miami.
2014 marks the fourth year SAP has powered the Official Sony Open Tournament App, which provides live match information and virtual replays on-demand. The app can be downloaded via the Sony Open website, Android store and Apple app store and also via QR codes conveniently located around the tournament grounds. Fans with the 2013 Sony Open app simply need to accept the update to access the 2014 version.
“SAP is committed to deepening fan engagement through all of our sports and entertainment partnerships,” said Chris Burton, Group VP, Global Sponsorships, SAP. “We are convinced that the 2014 Sony Open mobile app will provide tennis fans with an immersive experience and ensure they feel closer to the on court action.”
Bringing fans closer to action
“We are very excited to launch this year’s enhanced Sony Open mobile application which we feel will give guests on-site and fans following the tournament around the world a fun and entertaining way to interact with the event,” said Adam Barrett, Sony Open tournament director.
SAP and the Sony Open have collaborated to develop an app that delivers fans exclusive content, up-to-date scores, news, statistics, enhanced player profiles, photo, videos, an interactive visitor venue guide, competition and tournament information. The app will also offer a “Virtual Replay” feature, allowing fans to virtually replay matches that were monitored by the Sony Open’s electronic line calling system. An integrated polling feature will again allow fans with the opportunity to have their say on tournament related questions and see instant results on the app and in stadium.
Insightful video content
For the first time, SAP will be delivering fans exclusive video content via the mobile app. During week two of the tournament, former Sony Open champion, Olympic Gold Medalist, and SAP and Sony Open Ambassador Mary Joe Fernandez will use SAP technology to take fans ‘beyond the numbers’, offering expert insight into key matches and helping break down the barriers for fans to understand the sport.
The Sony Open and SAP are also giving a lucky tennis fan the chance to be in Miami for Sony Open finals weekend with a package that includes flights, luxury accommodation at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami, VIP hospitality for finals weekend, a brand new Sony Xperia Z and a HEAD tennis racquet.
